About Us

Memphis native Janna Hacker founded her namesake Janna Hacker & Associates in 2009, a private practice with the goal to help children and adults with speech-language needs. Since she began, her office has grown substantially in size to serve Germantown, Collierville, and the entire Memphis area.

Today, her team includes many therapists. The practice has also expanded group therapy services to include toddler and preschool language, kindergarten readiness, and social skills groups.

A native Memphian, Janna attended Hutchison School through the eighth grade and graduated from White Station High School. She says she’s the perfect blend of her parents: her mother, Marie Carlson, taught elementary school in the Memphis City Schools and loves to help children, while her father, Joe Carlson, was an entrepreneur who started his own insurance company.

After finishing high school, Janna attended Indiana University, majoring in psychology and speech-language pathology. She then won a grant to earn her Master of Science in speech-language pathology from Vanderbilt University.

Janna began her clinical work in San Diego at the Children’s Hospital as part of the cochlear implant team, helping patients who were profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. She later worked in public elementary and middle schools, then owned and operated a private practice in San Diego.

San Diego is also where she met her future husband, Dennis, who was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and flew F/A-18Ds. After tying the knot, they moved back to Germantown with their infant daughter to be closer to family. Janna founded Janna Hacker & Associates before having her second child.
